What is International Credit Union Day?
International Credit Union (ICU) Day is celebrated globally each year on the third Thursday in October since 1948. On October 21, 2021, our global credit union family will join together to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of ICU Day®! The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement’s history, promote its achievements, and recognize hard work and share member experiences. This year’s ICU Day theme, “Building financial health for a brighter tomorrow,”™ reflects the way credit unions contribute to a brighter future by working to improve members’ financial well-being. The ultimate goal is to raise awareness about the tremendous work that credit unions are doing around the world and give members the opportunity to get more engaged. International Credit Union Day is brought to you by Credit Union National Association and World Council of Credit Unions. This year’s event is proudly sponsored by Harland Clarke.

Did You Know…
North Peace Savings and Credit Union is an amalgamation of Baldonnel Credit Union and Fort St. John Credit Union.
- Baldonnel Credit Union was chartered in June, 1941 by 21 members with share capital of $83.50. In 1944 they purchased the assets of the Baldonnel Farmers Institute, which consisted of 5 acres, a picnic booth, and 2 fanning mills. The land was used as a sports field, the booth was renovated as an office and the fanning mills were rented to members for fifty cents for cleaning a seasons’ grain.
- Fort St. John Credit Union was chartered in 1945 by 30 members with share capital of $1,476.50. The first office was located in the back of the Fort Hotel.
In February, 1947, the same year Fort St. John became a village, the two Credit Unions amalgamated to form North Peace Savings and Credit Union. The Baldonnel picnic booth was moved behind the Fort Hotel to provide the new office.
